Results from HOYS 2010
BSPS Area 15a followed a triumphant RIHS with an equally impressive tally of wins at HOYS. Success began on Thursday with a win for one of our youngest members, 5 year old Elouise Pinnock, making her HOYS debut. After qualifying her Dartmoor gelding, Ekens Fifer, at Midland Counties, Elouise took everything in her stride to claim victory in the M&M Lead Rein class. Ably led by Greer Taverner, the pair went on to stand Mini M&M champion - see right.
Friday brought the coloured and show pony classes. With 3 members qualified for the non-native pony section of the coloureds, fingers were crossed for some placings. In fact all three came up trumps! Following on from a 2nd in 2008, Sara Parrott took the top spot on the successful tobiano stallion, Winchester D. Mia Harrison stood 3rd with Millpond Look Again, whom she also competes in 133cm SHP classes, and Brogan Taverner was 6th on Fanville David, produced by Team Harvey.
With a good number of show ponies representing the Area more placings were achieved. Lizzie Smith took 4th place in the 14.2s with her Royal Windsor winner, Hollowmarsh Oliver, whilst Mia Harrison had an 8th in the 12.2s with Lizzie’s former ride, Moluccas Saffron Surprise, and Henrietta Windsor-Phillips took 8th in the 13.2s with her novice, Aston Playtime.
This however, was not to be the end of Lizzie and Henrietta’s success. On Saturday, Henrietta rode the beautiful Australian bred Wesswood Caste a Spell to victory in the small intermediate SRT and following a foot perfect show went on to secure the reserve spot in the chmapionship. An excellent achievement in their first year together and for the fact that Henrietta was one of the youngest jockeys competing in this class - see left. Further success came from the intermediate sections for Team Harvey with Foxy Formula standing 4th and Paschal High Flyer 6th in the large SRT, and High Fidelity gaining an 8th in the smalls.
Lizzie Smith went on to ride her 4 year old show hunter pony, Clemenstone Charleston, to produce a fourth and final win for the Area in the 143cm class. This was Lizzie’s first win at HOYS following a number of good placings over recent years, and came as somewhat of a surprise as she “just hoped he would behave” after being only lightly shown in his first season under saddle.
The final day gave Katie Humphries her first taste of HOYS success with a 3rd in the lead rein class on Barkway Bridesmaid, produced by Team Holder, whilst Zara Clark-Jones followed closely behind to take 4th on the RIHS mini champion, Amesbury Mandalay.
All in all, I think 2010 has to have been one of the most successful years for the Area at HOYS for a very long time……

Results from the RIHS 2010
Well done to all who qualified and competed at the RIHS this year. It was a successful show for many of our members with a total of 3 champions, 5 wins and many placings.
Team Harvey began the week on winning form taking the new Junior M&M title. With a win in the small breeds class on Susan Rogers’ 4 year old Welsh B mare, Annandale Waterlily, Rebecca Harvey went on to take the championship. Photo Courtesy of Fred Vaux of Lightfused.net

The Team’s success continued with a second championship in the bag on Sunday with Amesbury Mandalay (below). Ably ridden by Zara Clark-Jones, this 5 year old in her debut season gave a foot perfect performance to stand top of the Lead Rein class and then went on to take the championship over the First Ridden winner. This landed them a place in the Dick Saunders Supreme Pony championship in the main arena, where despite another faultless show they were just pipped to the post by the WHP champion. To think the week couldn’t get much better the consistant Paschal High Flyer retained his 2009 Large Intermediate SRT crown with Brogan Taverner, whilst the new addition to the team, Foxy Formula, ridden by Karla Gardner took the 2nd spot. Other successes for the Team included 4th in the 138cm SP with Rhos Emporer, and 3rd, 5th and 6th in the 148cm SP class with Smalland Moonbeam, Rhos Emblem and Rhos Escapade.
Another member who made it into the Supreme Championship was Emily Flynn, whom after a win in the large breeds section of the M&Ms went on to stand champion on Anne Mitchell’s highland stallion and reigning HOYS M&M of the Year, Dunedin Marksman.
Kate Marfleet and her 153cm SHP Valentino III (below) scored a win in the Pretty Polly Large SHP section, with Mia Harrison taking 3rd place on her coloured 133cm Millpond Look Again in the small section.
Also finding success in the Pretty Polly classes was Zoe Cutmore with the consistant 148cm SP Roseview Limited Edition coming 3rd in the SP section.

In the Open SP classes, Lizzie Smith watched her 138cm SP, Wescoe Regal Charm, which she has now grown out of, take victory, whilst she stood 4th on her 148cm Hollowmarsh Oliver as well as 2nd and Reserve Champion in the Part Bred Arabs. In the 128cms, Mia Harrison and Moluccas Saffron Surprise put on a lovely show to stand 4th, whilst Josephine Ready and Ainthorpe Curtain Call stood a very creditable 6th.
In the 133cm SHPs, Henrietta Windsor-Phillips took 2nd place with the ever successful Dykebeck Wild Foxglove. On her RIHS debut Katie Humphries and Barkway Bridesmaid, produced by Team Holder, came up the line to stand 5th in the Lead Rein class. Josh Thompson had success in the Nursery Stakes after tackling the challenging course that Hickstead always brings to take 6th place, whilst Sara Parrott and Winchster D stood 4th in Coloureds.
A very successful year so far for Area 15a!
